Privacy policy
What we collect, why, and your choices. Last updated: 3 November 2026.
Who we are
Ampwise Energy Pty Ltd (ABN 76 685 095 710) runs Ampwise. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. Contact us at phil@ampwise.energy.
This website
This website has no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts, and sets no cookies. Like any web host, our hosting provider handles the technical details of each request, such as your IP address, so it can deliver the page.
If you use the contact form, we collect your name, email address, whether you are a resident or represent a building, your message, and your phone number and address if you choose to add them. We email these through Amazon SES to team mailboxes, where we keep them as long as we need to answer you. We don't store the form in a database and we don't send you an automatic copy. We briefly use your IP address, in memory only, to limit repeat submissions.
If you are a resident
When you use the Ampwise app and an Outlet, we collect and keep:
- your account details, including your email address and display name, and records of your sign-in sessions. Your passkey is managed by our sign-in service
- your Outlet assignment, and the price and terms you accepted
- the brand, last four digits and expiry of your saved card, and your Stripe customer reference
- electricity readings and times for your Outlet, and the usage, bills and payments calculated from them
- the emails we send you about your account, bills and payments
When you save a payment card, Stripe collects the card details. Ampwise does not receive or store your full card number or security code.
The Ampwise app uses cookies to keep you signed in and to protect your session. We don't use them for advertising.
If you represent a building
We keep your contact details and the records of your building, its Outlets and the reimbursements we make to you. These records are building totals, such as energy used, money collected, fees and adjustments.
How we use it
We use personal information to run your account, measure and bill electricity use, take payment, send notices about your account, keep the service secure, answer your questions and meet our legal and tax obligations.
Who we share it with
- Stripe processes card payments.
- Amazon Web Services hosts our systems in Australia (Sydney) and sends our emails. Our public website is delivered through its CloudFront network, which has locations worldwide.
- Your building receives building totals for reimbursement, such as energy used, money collected, fees and adjustments.
Sign-in runs on software we host ourselves. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We plan to keep electricity readings in our database for 365 days and then move them to archive storage; until archiving is switched on they stay in the database. We keep a daily backup of our data for 7 days. We keep billing, payment and account records for as long as we need them for billing, legal and tax obligations.
Security
We use encrypted connections, and residents can sign in with passkeys. We record administrative changes. No system is perfectly secure, so tell us straight away if you suspect a problem.
Access and correction
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it. Email phil@ampwise.energy or edward@ampwise.energy. We may need to confirm who you are first.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, contact us first and we'll respond in writing. If you're still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au.
Changes
We'll update this page when what we do changes, and change the date at the top.
